Senior school

We have a very diverse senior curriculum as outlined in the subject Selection Handbook, "Wise choices". Please refer to this Handbook for more detailed information on the subjects available.
 
There are four types of subjects which are offered through senior studies

Authority Subjects

  • derived from the state wide syllabus developed by the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA)
  • have school work programs reviewed and accredited by the QSA
  • have standards of assessment reviewed and accredited by the QSA
  • contribute to a student’s eligibility for tertiary entrance
  • are recorded on the Senior Statement and the School Exit Statement.

Authority Registered Subjects

  • are derived from Study Area Specifications (SASs) developed by the Queensland Studies Authority
  • are vocationally oriented and may include national recognition of vocational education units of competency
  • have study plans approved by the QSA
  • do NOT contribute to a student’s eligibility for tertiary entrance (through an OP)
  • are recorded on the Senior Statement and the School Exit Statement.

Recognised studies

  • are developed by external organisations such as TAFE, Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) or Trinity College according to their specific rules
  • may be studied as part of the Park Ridge State High School curriculum or may be studied privately
  • do NOT contribute to a student’s eligibility for tertiary entrance
  • are recorded on the Senior Statement but not on the School Exit Statement
  • can contribute to the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

VET courses

  • carry a National Accreditation at a specific level of competence
  • result in the issue of a specific certificate upon successful completion of all the units of competency
  • do NOT contribute to a student’s eligibility for tertiary entrance
  • do contribute to credits for the QCE (up to 8 points for a Certificate III Course)
  • can be delivered by any Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
