Manual Arts

The Manual Arts Department at Park Ridge SHS offers a range of subjects from year 7 to 12.  The junior subjects included a variety of core areas comprising Metal Technology

Wood Technology and Graphics.  In the senior school there is a range of vocational based subjects and authority subjects for students to choose from in support of specific career interest areas.

Manual arts offer subjects where students will gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge through a hands-on project based course of learning.  Students will complete set skill tasks, design and create products using a range of materials, tools, equipment, processes and techniques using specific industry technology.  Students will be challenged to understand the appropriateness of products, as well as the social, ethical, safety and environmental issues pertaining to materials use and disposal.  Students will be required to manage activities that require them to meet constrains of time, cost, materials and availability of resources.

The department facilities included 6 workshops and 1 computer room catering for a range of practical and drawing based subjects.  Each area is well resourced and industry standard equipment is used in the delivery of the curriculum including certificate level vocational subjects.
