Social media challenge

#SayNOtoCyberBullying. Take the 3 Day Social Media Pause Challenge to raise awareness and encourage others to reach out and speak up, even if their voice shakes.

The Dance Troupe students at Park Ridge State High School have been exploring the impacts of cyberbullying. They are starting a campaign that brings about awareness of the amount of time we spend on social media and what you can do if you are being bullied via social media.

In empathy of all boys and girls affected by cyberbullying, we encourage you to take a moment to rest, refresh and reflect, by challenging you to switch your social media off for 3 days.

Anyone can participate. Perhaps you have personally experienced cyberbullying or would simply like to do the 3 Day Social Media Pause Challenge to personally challenge yourself or to support others.

We hope that the 3 Day Social Media Pause Challenge will help to bring about awareness of the serious implications of cyberbullying and the unnecessary amount of time and value placed on social media.

During your pause, you could help someone you know that might be lonely or feel left out. You may wish to journal your thoughts and feelings, catch up with family or friends in person, go for walks, play sport, explore nature, dance, paint, sing or enhance your passions.

Most importantly, if you are being bullied, Kids Helpline has some helpful tips:

  • Tell someone - your parent, a friend, a teacher, or a trusted adult
  • Keep your distance from the bullying and don’t bully them back
  • Tell them what they are doing is not okay and have someone help you report it

If you would like to take part in the 3 Day Social Media Pause Challenge, make sure you let your friends and family know first and make plans to exchange alternative contact information if you would like to stay in touch over those 3 days.

How to get started: Choose the three day block you would like to pause on and then copy + paste this onto your social media;

How to pause your social media for three days: Option One - Delete the apps off your phone to reinstall later Option Two - Sign out of your accounts

Option Three - Turn off your internet connection for the social media apps through your technologies settings, such as switching off your cellular data for those apps Option Four - Just don’t open the app for the three days.
