Park Ridge SHS provides both minimum and recommended hardware requirements for BYOD.
The minimum requirements are what is required for devices to function on our network, whilst the recommended requirements are our suggestion to provide an acceptable experience over a 3 year life span.
These requirements are for general, non-technical subjects in years 7-9. For senior technology subjects, high performance desktops are provided by the school. Students studying Media, ICT or Design) should consult the subject teacher if considering buying a high performance BYOD machine.
A physical keyboard attachment is required if parents are considering a tablet device.
Parents are strongly advised to purchase a protective case, additional warranty and accidental damage insurance.

One of the biggest barriers to using computers in the classroom is poor battery life. Computers with advertised battery life of under 8 hours may not last an entire school day because manufacturers commonly use unrealistic scenarios. Real world use often results in shorter battery performance.
Park Ridge SHS recommends battery be your highest criteria for choosing a device.
Students need to ensure they charge their laptop at home and use it responsibly to last the full school day. Due to workplace health and safety issues, students cannot bring their own chargers for use at school.
Please consider that most devices will have a life span of around 3 years and battery life decreases at a rate of approximately 20% per year, depending on usage.
