To ensure your child's device runs smoothly and is protected against threats, it should be regularly updated while at home (Education Queensland firewalls prevent these updates from occurring).
The following programs are required to be installed on laptops:
Microsoft Office
Park Ridge students can download and install Microsoft Office 365 free of charge. This includes licences for up to 5 devices.
This can be downloaded by going to office.com and signing in with their school email (username@eq.edu.au) and password.
Internet browser
Park Ridge State High School recommends two browsers for students. Some websites may display differently depending on what browser is used.
Other applications
- VLC media player - VLC is a free, small, open source media player that's available for free on every platform. Download a copy from their website.
- Anti-virus software - Devices running the latest version of Windows 10 have protection built in through the Windows Defender app. All other devices will need to have an active anti-virus software program installed on their computer to work on the school network.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader - Acrobat Reader is a free program that can be downloaded from the Adobe website. This supports PDF documents.
Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) suite
Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) suite of apps for students includes industry standard apps such as Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro.
Students studying Photography, Film TV & New Media or Media Arts in Practice are encouraged to install this software so they can continue using it when at home. Students should check if their device meets requirements before downloading the trial (30 days).
Students studying a subject that requires Adobe CC will have their licence activated for the year for free.
