Acknowledgement of country

We at Park Ridge SHS would like to acknowledge the Yugumbeh and Jagera people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which the school is located. We would also like to pay our respect to the Elders, past present and future of the Bundjalung Nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders.

Closing the Gap

Creating positive educational outcomes for Indigenous students

We recognise that Indigenous Australians need opportunities to succeed and bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. At Park Ridge SHS we aim to provide all our Indigenous students with as much support and guidance as possible.

This is achieved through:

  • Individualised Student Profiles
  • Quarterly reviews of student results and attendance
  • Opportunities for School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships
  • University Excursions and assistance with Alternate Entrance to courses
  • Before and after school tutorials

Cultural connections at PRSHS

We are proud of our cultural heritage at Park Ridge SHS. We promote this heritage through a variety of activities for both our Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike.

  • NAIDOC Week Celebrations
  • Assemblies for Sorry Day and Harmony Day
  • Indigenous workshops
  • Visits from Elders
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Performances
  • Excursions to museums, theatre and other places of significance

QATSIF Scholarships

Our year 11 and 12 Indigenous students have the opportunity to apply for a QCE scholarship from QATSIF. QATSIF funding comes from the interest on the money awarded those Aboriginal and Torres Strait workers who were a part of the Queensland Stolen Wages claim. It is managed by the public trustee and allows for many of the expenses of the senior years including: school fees, laptop hire, resource hire scheme, uniform and other various school supplies. To receive this scholarship, students need to maintain; passing results, high attendance and excellent behaviour and effort results.
