What is Esports? 

Esports (ICT Specialist Subject) is a strand of the ICT Applied subject area and focus on the knowledge, understanding and skills required to engage in the rapidly developing Esports industry.

Students will explore multiple aspects of the Esports industry, including past, present and future applications in society across a range of current and emerging hardware and software modes.

Students will explore software and hardware interactions through console gaming, PC, mobile phone and VR platforms and how to design solutions to meet the changing needs of users and industry, including game design, tournament and event management and social media marketing and engagement.

  • Enjoy being competitive and social through technology
  • Have previous experience and enjoyment in a range of games or game platforms
  • Want to design and create programs, apps, games and media in response to real world challenges and scenarios

Year 10Semester 1

Casting
In this unit, students explore and develop their online gameplay personas and establish a class community video and casting sharing network.  Students will learn about transmission of data and video content, sharing and privacy considerations.

Coding with Minecraft
Students are introduced to coding languages of Makecode, Javascript and Python through Minecraft Education Edition. Students will develop their knowledge of and ability to use code to develop interactive user experiencing, before designing a Minecraft world with game/interactive coded elements for users to explore.

  • Project - Video submission of  gameplay with voiceover discussion on data

  • Project - Design and create a game or interactive world with code inside Minecraft EE. 

 Semester 2

Networking
Students will learn how to create connected networks of various sizes and hardware components, including wired, wireless and mobile network structures, including data security and privacy considerations for each solution.
Students will develop their own LAN/Wireless network to conduct small scale multiplayer games.

Esports Hub
Students use project management concepts to design and run an Esports tournament for users across the school.  Students will need to design and plan for user experiences and consider sustainability and enterprise in their project.

Year 11Unit 1App Development
In this unit, students explore app development industry​ practices, standards and processes.  they use knowledge of industry practices and processes to demonstrate fundamental skills for producing native apps.
