What is Fashion?
Fashion explores what underpins fashion culture, technology and design. Students use their imaginations to create, innovate and express themselves and their ideas, and to design and produce design solutions in a range of fashion contexts.
Students learn to appreciate the design aesthetics of others while developing their own personal style and aesthetic. They explore contemporary and historical fashion culture; learn to identify, understand and interpret fashion trends; and examine how the needs of different markets are met.
Students engage in a design process to plan, generate and produce fashion items. They investigate textiles and materials and their characteristics and how these qualities impact on their end use. Students experiment with combining textiles and materials and how to make and justify aesthetic choices. They investigate fashion merchandising and marketing, the visual literacies of fashion and become discerning consumers of fashion while appraising and critiquing fashion items and trends as well as their own products.

| | Semester 2 | Within this unit students will be given a design challenge to use a range of items to create a Wearable art piece. This can include a garment or a range of fashion accessories.
Students will investigate fashion designers and how they apply the design process. Students will be required to create a garment of their choice and a folio to display their research and design process. | Summative internal assessment 3:

| Year 11 | Unit 1 | Within this unit students will learn about the history of fashion, the principles and elements of design, we well as the properties and characteristics of textiles. | Year 12 | Unit 3 | Students will be investigating the unsustainable 'fast fashion' industry and how it impacts the environment globally. Students will use practical skills to upcycle and reinvent old items into new fashion.
