The Junior Boys AFL excellence program consists of year 7, 8 and 9 students who through their time at Park Ridge State High School will be involved in a wide range of practical and theoretical content. Whilst in the Junior Boys AFL Excellence program the students are provided numerous opportunities to represent the school in AFL competitions. The boys will participate in the AFL Schools of Excellence division in terms one and two which is a part of the AFL Queensland School’s Cup competition run all year round. As well as this competition which involves all three year levels, the year seven and eight academy students are provided with the chance to participate in a Schools of Excellence competition run in term three. Students work tirelessly throughout the year giving up their own time to improve their skill and adhere to the three pillars of the AFL Excellence Program: Attitude, commitment and success.
Students are also challenged theoretically via a supportive but rigorous classroom curriculum. They will study numerous topics including team dynamics and cohesion, resilience in sport, bullying and conflict resolution, sports psychology, skill acquisition, tournament organisation, AFL officiating, anatomy, sport sociology, sports coaching and training for performance.
The objective of the Junior Boys AFL Excellence program is to foster and build a positive team culture where students are willing to work for each other and themselves, as well as gain a strong understanding of the values that underpin what it means to be an AFL excellence student at Park Ridge State High School.
