Qualification description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are developing the basic creative and technical skills that underpin visual arts and craft practice. It applies to work in different visual arts, photography and design environments.

Duration and location
This is a two-year course delivered in Years 11
and 12 on site at Park Ridge State High School
Delivery modes
A range of delivery modes will be used during the teaching and learning of this qualification. These include:
- face-to-face instruction
- work-based learning
- guided learning
- online learning
Fees
There are no additional costs involved in this
course, however, there is a subject levy of $50 per year, which covers the use
of cameras, SD cards, camera lenses and filters, light boxes, studio lighting,
tripods, Adobe software, props, backdrops and a multitude of other equipment
needed to complete the course, including the printing of their final
photographic folio.
Assessment
Assessment is competency based and completed in a simulated photographic studio environment.
Units of competency are clustered and assessed in this way to replicate what occurs in a photographic studio as closely as possible.
Assessment techniques include:
- observation
- folios of work
- questioning
Work placement
Students are provided with the opportunity to do structured workplace learning, where they could work in a real photographic environment.

To attain a CUA20720 Certificate II in Visual Arts, 9 units (4 core units plus 5 elective units) of competency must be achieved:

RTO obligation
The RTO guarantees that the student will be provided with every opportunity to complete the qualification. We do not guarantee employment upon completion of this qualification.
Students who are deemed competent in all 9 units of competency will be awarded a Qualification and a Record of Results.
Students who achieve at least one unit of competency (but not the full qualification) will receive a Statement of Attainment. Certificates will be issued at the end of Year 12 in Term 4.

This qualification may articulate into:
CUA31120 Certificate III in Visual Arts
The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Ceramics Studio Trainee, Community Arts Workshop Assistant and Arts Practitioner.
It also provides a pathway to other visual arts, craft, photography and design job roles.
